About LINKS
Who we are?

The Learning in a NetworKed Society (LINKS) is a multi-disciplinary research center funded by the Israeli Centers for Research Excellence (I-CORE). The research is conducted collaboratively among 15 principal investigators, and about 120 graduate students and postdocs from four institutions: The University of Haifa, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, the Technion, and the Herzliya interdisciplinary Center.

Research focus

LINKS researchers bring together the theoretical and practical tools of scientists in both the social and educational sciences to examine what types of interaction, knowledge construction, social organization, and power structures: (a) occur spontaneously in technology-enhanced learning communities and/or (b) can be created by design. We refer to these, respectively, as the study of ambient, naturally occurring, environments, and of designed environments, respectively.

Impact

An integral part of the LINKS mission is contributing to the community by accessing digital gaps at the community level, implementing and evaluating technologies of learning and play in schools, and providing professional development in collaboration with the Israeli Ministry of Education. In addition, by allocating resources to community outreach LINKS researchers lead activities that directly impact learners in peripheral and underprivileged settings.

    • 8 Presentations in parallel sessions

    • 2 Keynote presentations that synthesize book sections by leading international scholars:

      • Prof. Christopher Hoadley (Steinhart, NYU)

      • Prof. Clark Chinn (Rutgers, NJ)

  • Studies in-progress representing ongoing LINKS research at the four Israeli institutions:

    • Posters and demos presented by LINKS graduate students and postdocs in Day 1 (Monday, 19.2.2018, afternoon).

  • Seeds for future research that we hope will emerge from the following pre-conference workshops in Day 1 (Monday, 19.2.2018, morning):

    • Incorporating 3D printing in Learning In a NetworKed Society research

    • Content Producers: incentives, motivations, and value creation
